The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 in which you are now living 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
