The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
