The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
