The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
