The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
