We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 (Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me. 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
