Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
