And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 Allah said: "For sure you are granted respite 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
