When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 and we have come to you with the truth, and surely we are truthful, 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 The people of the city came to him rejoicing. 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 but be conscious of God and disgrace me not!" 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
