▼ 15 The Hijjr Valley
Al-Hijjr 6 of 6
And verily, the dwellers of Al-Hijr (the rocky tract) denied the Messengers. 80 We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them. 81 And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure. 82 Then the shout took hold of them in the early morn. 83 And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)! 84 And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness. 85 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-creator, the All-knowing. 86 And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an. 87 Stretch not thine eyes to that We have given pairs of them to enjoy; and do not sorrow for them, and lower thy wing unto the believers, 88 And say thou: verily I! I am a plain warner. 89 Like as We sent down on the dividers 90 [and] who [now] declare this Qur'an to be [a tissue of] falsehoods! 91 So, by your Lord, We would most certainly question them all, 92 about whatever they had been doing! 93 Promulgate thou that which thou art commanded, and turn away from the associaters. 94 Surely We suffice to deal with those who scoff at you, 95 Who set some other god along with Allah. But they will come to know. 96 We know indeed thy breast is straitened by the things they say. 97 So hallow thou the praise of thy Lord, and be thou of the prostrate. 98 and worship your Lord until the last moment (of your life) that will most certainly come. 99

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
