They started their journey and some time latter they embarked in a boat in which he made a hole. Moses asked him, "Did you make the hole to drown the people on board? This is certainly very strange". 71 He said, "Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?" 72 Moses said: "Rebuke me not for forgetting, nor grieve me by raising difficulties in my case." 73 Then they proceeded: until, when they met a young man, he slew him. Moses said: "Hast thou slain an innocent person who had slain none? Truly a foul (unheard of) thing hast thou done!" 74 ۞ Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 75 He (Moses) said: 'If I question you again do not let me be your companion; you already have enough excuse' 76 Then they both proceeded, till, when they came to the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to entertain them. Then they found therein a wall about to collapse and he (Khidr) set it up straight. [Musa (Moses)] said: If you had wished, surely, you could have taken wages for it!" 77 He said: This shall be separation between me and you; now I will inform you of the significance of that with which you could not have patience. 78 As for the ship, it belonged to certain poor men, who toiled upon the sea; and I desired to damage it, for behind them there was a king who was seizing every ship by brutal force. 79 And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we apprehended that he might impose upon the twain exorbitance and infidelity. 80 and so we desired that their Sustainer grant them in his stead [a child] of greater purity than him, and closer [to them] in loving tenderness. 81 "And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town; and there was under it a treasure belonging to them; and their father was a righteous man, and your Lord intended that they should attain their age of full strength and take out their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of those (things) over which you could not hold patience." 82
