۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
