The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
