۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
