۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
