۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
