۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
