And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, then you will be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 This man has forged a mere lie in the name of Allah and we shall never believe what he says." 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 And the Cry seized them justly, and We made them as scum; so away with the people of the evildoers! 41 AND AFTER them We gave rise to new generations: 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
