And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 He said: 'Help me, Lord, they belie me' 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession, every time there came to a nation their Messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another (to destruction), and We made them as Ahadith (the true stories for mankind to learn a lesson from them). So away with a people who believe not. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
