But the leaders of his people who denied the truth and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, because We had granted them ease and plenty in their worldly life, said, "This is only a human being like yourselves, he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink, 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! 36 There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our Signs and authority manifest, 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
