Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (Here is) a surah which We have revealed and enjoined, and wherein We have revealed plain tokens, that haply ye may take heed. 1 Flog the fornicatress and the fornicator with a hundred lashes each. Let there be no reluctance in enforcing the laws of God, if you have faith in God and the Day of Judgment. Let it take place in the presence of a group of believers. 2 A man guilty of adultery (or fornication) shall not marry any but the woman guilty of the same or a mushrik woman, and none shall marry a woman guilty of adultery (or fornication) but the man guilty of the same or a mushrik man: such marriages are forbidden to true believers. 3 As for those persons who charge chaste women with false accusations but do not produce four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes and never accept their evidence afterwards, for they themselves are transgressors, 4 except those who repent and reform themselves; Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. 5 One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, 6 They should say on the fifth time, "Let God's curse be upon me if I am a liar". 7 The woman's punishment can be averted if she swears four times by God as testimony that her husband is a liar, 8 and a fifth time, that the wrath of God shall be upon her, if he should be of the truthful. 9 Were it not for God's grace and His mercy upon you, [you would have come to grief] and God is wise, acceptor of repentance. 10
