He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
