Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ [This is] a surah which We have sent down and made [that within it] obligatory and revealed therein verses of clear evidence that you might remember. 1 AS FOR the adulteress and the adulterer flog each of them with a hundred stripes, and let not compassion with them keep you from [carrying out] this law of God, if you [truly] believe in God and the Last Day; and let a group of the believers witness their chastisement. 2 The adulterer shall not marry save an adulteress or an idolatress, and the adulteress none shall marry save an adulterer or an idolater. All that is forbidden unto believers. 3 And those who accuse free women then do not bring four witnesses, flog them, (giving) eighty stripes, and do not admit any evidence from them ever; and these it is that are the transgressors, 4 Except those who repent after this and act aright, for surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 Those who accuse their wives and do not have any witnesses except themselves, should swear four times in the name of God, the testimony of each such person being that he is speaking the truth, 6 And the fifth (testimony) (should be) the invoking of the Curse of Allah on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her). 7 The woman's punishment can be averted if she swears four times by God as testimony that her husband is a liar, 8 and on the fifth time the Wrath of Allah shall be upon her if he is of the truthful. 9 And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise. 10
