And indeed We gave Moosa the Book and appointed with him his brother Haroon as a deputy. 35 Then We told them: "Go to the people who have rejected Our signs." Then We annihilated them completely. 36 We had drowned the people of Noah when they had accused the apostles of lies, and turned them into an example for men. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wicked. 37 And the 'Aad and the Thamud and the dwellers of the Rass and many generations in-between. 38 We administered warnings to each of them, and then destroyed them completely. 39 And they [who now deny Our messages] must surely have come across that town which was rained upon by a rain of evil: have they, then, never beheld it [with their minds eye]? But nay, they would not believe in resurrection! 40 (Muhammad), when they see you, they will only mock you and say, "Has God really sent him as a Messengers? 41 He would have mislead us from our gods, if we had not been steadfast to them' But they shall know who is further astray from the Path when they see the punishment. 42 Have you seen him who takes his low desires for his god? Will you then be a protector over him? 43 Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path. 44
