And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
