And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
