And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
