Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
