The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
