The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
