The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
