The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
