The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
