He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
