The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
