(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
