The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
