The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
