The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
