Thamud denied the messengers 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
