The people of Lut rejected the messengers. 160 When their brother Lot said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 161 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 162 so fear you God, and obey you me. 163 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 164 Do you, of all people, approach males, 165 And leave ye your spouses your Lord hath created for you? Aye! ye are a people trespassing. 166 They said, 'If thou givest not over, Lot, thou shalt assuredly be one of the expelled.' 167 He said: 'Truly, I am a detester of what you do' 168 Lord, save me and my family from their deeds." 169 Then We delivered him and all his family 170 except an old woman who stayed behind, 171 then We totally destroyed the rest, 172 and We rained on them a rain; and evil is the rain of them that are warned. 173 Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 174 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 175

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
