The Companions of the Wood rejected the messengers. 176 When Shu'aib (Shuaib) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah (and obey Him)? 177 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 178 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 179 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure and do not cheat; 181 and weigh with the straight balance, 182 And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption. 183 but be conscious of Him who has created you, just as [He created] those countless generations of old!" 184 They said: thou art but of the bewitched; 185 And you are naught but a mortal like ourselves, and we know you to be certainly of the liars. 186 Let a part of the sky fall on us if what you say is true". 187 He said: "My Lord is the Best Knower of what you do." 188 Then they branded him a liar, whereupon the chastisement of the Day of Canopy overtook them. It was the chastisement of a very awesome day. 189 In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 190 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
