[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear God? 177 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 178 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 179 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage is only with the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, do not be among the cheats, 181 And weigh with a balance straight. 182 And do not withhold from people what belongs to them, and do not corrupt the land; 183 "And fear Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old." 184 They said: "You are only one of those bewitched! 185 You are only a human being like ourselves. Indeed we think you are a liar. 186 Then make fragments of the heaven fall upon us, if thou art of the truthful. 187 He said: "My Lord is the Best Knower of what you do." 188 But they cried him lies; then there seized them the chastisement of the Day of Shadow; assuredly it was the chastisement of a dreadful day. 189 In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 190 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 191
