This, (Quran), is certainly the revelation from the Lord of the Universe. 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 upon thy heart, [O Muhammad] so that thou mayest be among those who preach 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 So it will come upon them suddenly, whilst they will be unaware. 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 Seek haste then they with our torment? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 And then cometh that which they were promised, 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 They are not worthy of it, nor have they power. 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So do not call any other god beside Allah lest you become of those who will be punished, 213 And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do. 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying, wicked person, 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
