This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 Which the trusted spirit descended with 193 upon thy heart, [O Muhammad] so that thou mayest be among those who preach 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign unto them that the learned among the Children of Isra'il know it? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 In order that he read it to them, even then they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will say: Shall we be respited? 203 Do they wish Us then to hasten the punishment? 204 Think! If We let them enjoy life for some years, 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 And the devils have not brought the revelation down. 210 They are not worthy of it, nor have they power. 211 Verily far from hearing are they removed. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And lower thou thy wing unto those who follow thee as believers. 215 And if they disobey thee, say thou: verily I am quit of that which ye work. 216 And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,- 217 who sees you when you stand 218 And your movements among those who fall prostrate (along with you to Allah in the five compulsory congregational prayers). 219 Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Shall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend? 221 They come to every sinful liar. 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back. 227
