۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
