The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
