Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
