۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In gardens of delight, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They found their father going astray 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
