۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In gardens of delight, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
